WHAT TO EXPECT THE RED CENTRE WAY

DAY 1 : ARRIVE at ULURU Meeting up after we conclude our final Uluru AstroWorkshop, we can collect you from the airport if you are just arriving or meet at Ayers Rock Resort to check us into our accommodation for the evening, before heading into Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park for an Uluru sunset, followed by an Astrophotography session.  After dinner. We will retire to our Ayers Rock Resort accommodation for the night, in readiness for a very early start and long road trip.

DAY 2 : ULURU to WATARRKA (KINGS CANYON) An Early checkout and collecting a packed breakfast for our journey, we depart Uluru in the direction of Kings Canyon, stopping at Mount Connor for sunrise.  The trip to Kings canyon passes through several cattle stations, and wildlife including dingos and camels are common.  Keep your long lenses ready as stops will be frequent and sudden. After a quick stop to drop off our bags at our accommodation, we will head to Kings Canyon where the adventurous can complete the famed rim walk. Our accommodation for the night will be a true outback experience, sleeping in drovers safari cabins, where we will spark up the BBQ for dinner and shoot sunset and the Milky Way at the back of the property where the desert oaks and mulga trees provide an excellent foreground to our Astro images with an option of heading back to Kings Canyon or Kathleen Springs.

DAY 3 : MEREENIE LOOP ROAD to GLEN HELEN HOMESTEAD After taking in an early sunrise across Kings Creek station, and eating a hearty bushman’s breakfast, we fill up with fuel and, weather and road conditions permitting, drive the 200kms along one of Australia’s most remote tracks, the Mereenie Loop. With lookouts, mountain ranges, long straight dirt roads, and the potential for brumbies, there is no better way to appreciate the vastness of the outback.  Taking us into Tjoritja, the West Macdonnell Ranges, we will stop off at Tnorala, Redbank Gorge, Mount Sonder Lookout, and after lunch at Glen Helen Homestead we will head to Ormiston Gorge to walk the Ghost Gum Walk and appreciate the sheer splendour of this spiritual place. After checking into our accommodation and sitting down for a group dinner, we will walk to Glen Helen Gorge for our Astro and star trails. Not constrained by time, we can stay here as long as we want with our accommodation only a few minutes walk away.

DAY 4 : TJORITJA (WEST MACDONNELL RANGES) Kicking off with a sunrise watching the light hit the walls of Glen Helen Gorge is one of the most amazing sights to photograph, and after a fantastic cooked breakfast and picking up a packed lunch, we will spend the day taking in the gorges of Tjoritja, hiking up to the most amazing viewpoint of Serpentine Gorge, relaxing on the sandy banks of Ellery Creek Big Hole and marvelling at the breathtaking beauty of Standley Chasm.  We return to Glen Helen Gorge for a sunset over the dry bed of the Finke river and assess the conditions and our options for our Astro shoot for the evening.

DAY 5 : HERMANNSBURG to PALM VALLEY to ALICE SPRINGS The final day of our road trip begins with an optional sunrise Helicopter flight over the stunning Ormiston Gorge and Mount Sonder.  After departing Glen Helen Homestead, we journey to the Lutheran mission town of Hermannsburg with opportunity to capture some of the historic buildings and the stunning backdrop of the red centre before we drive along the bed of the Finke River to the lush oasis surrounded by the incredible red gorges of Palm Valley stopping to capture the awe inspiring spectacle of this part of the Territory (Access to Palm Valley is dependent on weather and road conditions).  We then head back to civilisation and our luxurious accommodation at Doubletree Hilton Alice Springs.  After our closeout dinner there will be an option to head to the East of Alice springs to an amazing easy to access rock formation for a final Astro shoot.

DAY 6 : DEPART ALICE SPRINGS Our final morning together and we will finish with breakfast at one of our favourite Alice Springs cafes before spending some time going through your images and giving some post processing advice before checking out and transferring you to the airport for your return flights.
